The Post Office Book: Mail and How it Moves

ISBN 0690041985 - Printed in the United States of America. Simple non-fiction books for young children are books that I always like to find. This one is slightly outdated, but not outdated enough for it to be useless yet. The workings of the Post Office is explained in some detail. From how postage is calculated to how the Post Office sorts and transports mail within the U.S. and even how it is transported to be taken overseas, every step from the hand of the sender to the hand of the recipient is covered. The last page has some interesting trivia about mail. When I first flipped through the book, I had the impression that it was older than it is, partly because of the illustrations. The images are only red, blue, grays and white, a lack of variety of color that I usually find in books from the late 1950s and early 1960s. The text, by Gail Gibbons, is simple and easy to follow, although probably dated enough to be incorrect on some points. That said, I don't think those points matter too much in a book for young children, because the primary points haven't changed. This would be a good book for a classroom or homeschooling family... or for your budding mail carrier. - AnnaLovesBooks

great for introducing unit on how the mail works

This book was great in introducing a unit on how the mail works to my second grade class. I would definitely recommend it!!

Good Book for Learning About the Post Office

This is a great book about the post office and how mail is sent. The book is very comprehensible and understandable to most students. Very informative without being dense.
