Robert P. Davis' THE PILOT may be classified as a pulp novel, but it is a superbly informed account of an alcoholic pilot, with an emphasis on "pilot." It is full of convincing detail about what it is like to fly as a professional (the protagonist is a pilot of DC-8s who started his career as a crop-duster). If the reader is at all interested in flying techniques, weather, and the drama of the cockpit, this is a great read. Certainly one of the best books about flying I have ever read.
