Book Overview

Emily Luccock thought the worst was behind her; she had survived the horrors of Sugar Hill Hall and been reunited with her beloved Aunt and Uncle Twice. Now she is devastated to be left at Mrs. Spilking's Select Academy while her aunt and uncle sail for India. But nothing can top Emily's misery once she spies the dreary school, icy Mrs. Spilking, and, once again, a bowl of tantalizing yet forbidden peppermints Emily tries to keep her spirits up while counting the days until she can rejoin Aunt and Uncle Twice. But she soon realizes her aunt and uncle have all but forgotten her, and, worse, Mrs. Spilking's behavior grows increasingly cruel -- and suspicious. Can Emily discover what's going on at the dreadful school before her future is destroyed forever?

THE PERILS OF PEPPERMINTS, by Barbara Brooks Wallace

THE PERILS OF PEPPERMINTS is actually the sequel to a book I read a few years back called, PEPPERMINTS IN THE PARLOR, that kept me guessing about the fate of Emily Luccock, a young orphan girl in the Victorian Era. The author's way with words and ability to build a fantastic mystery story tied both books together beautifully. THE PERILS OF PEPPERMINTS picks up right where the first book left off. The characters were always compelling, and nothing about the book was ever predictable -- including the surprise ending.

Great Book!

After reading Peppermints in the Parlor I eagerly began The Perils of Peppermints. What a delight! Is it possible that the second was better than the first? Just maybe -- both books are terrific!

Another winner

THE PERILS OF PEPPERMINTS is a perfect--and long awaited--sequel to Barbara Wallace's PEPPERMINTS IN THE PARLOR. It was worth the wait. Ms. Wallace is a delight, as usual. I loved the book, as did my grandchildren.A Virginia reader
