A friend of mine bought this book in a used book store and suggested that I take a look at it. I didn't relate to all of the types of perfectionism, but this book did give me some excellent insights that I wouldn't have realized about how perfectionistic habits negatively impact my relationships and overall outlook on life. I thought I only needed to work harder and invest more of myself to work, when in actuality my boss also has similar perfectionist qualities that only exacerbate mine. I noticed that he works better with people who help him to reign in these tendencies, instead of trying to meet all of his suggestions like I have been trying to do the past four years. Now that I understand the mechanism for how this doesn't work for me, I need to find a boss or group of people who can be my allies in helping me to reign in my expectations, so that I can see the forest for the trees. I haven't been able to do this very well on my own, so I need to find people to conterbalance me. I have been so focused on trying to make sure my boss is happy that I have sabbatoged the very goal I was working toward, which was to make him happy. I am slowly working through the last chapters of recommendations to change these tendencies and I think they are well worth the efforts so far.
