A Coal Region Delight

I bought this book several years ago. The editorial reviews pretty much explain the plot. But it is truly an enjoyable read for anyone brought up in Pennsylvania's coal towns. The good times and the harsh times are all laid out and the book leaves the reader to figure out if the lead character, Sammy, is really doing the right things as he figures out his life. Jay Parini's writing is almost poetic and I never got bored reading The Patch Boys. If you've read Jay Parini's newer books check out this earlier gem.
