This and another similar (and similarly named: "Gourmet Pantry") cookbook was published in the mid-1980s. They were both excellent. I grew up in a family that had amazing pantries -- flavored vinegars, infused oils, spice mixes, spreads and so on. Those things were part of everyday foods. When my mom got this book, we both read it cover to cover looking for new things to make. There were plenty. In our current social distancing, stay-at-home lives, this book is an even more valuable resource than it was all those years ago. With it, you can multiply the flavor profiles of simple dishes a dozen times with a good pantry, whether it's by adding uniques ingredients or by offering add ins/garnishes for those who like them. The Pantry Gourmet is a great reference and pantry bible. It's worth a spot on your bookshelf not just for the recipes included in it but also because of the way it will expand your understanding of what food can be. Who doesn't want more interesting meals???
