A good small size paperback dictionary, primarily for the new student. Coverage of the language is adequate for a beginning student, but a 3rd year ( or level 3 ) student would probably want, and need, to "upgrade". The definitions and explanatory notes are VERY short in most cases, and confusing until you get the hang of it. Overall - 5 stars for a new student just starting. For a more advanced student - (2nd year) - 4 stars - handy, convenient, portable referance, but sometimes lacking adequate coverage. 3rd year student - 3 stars - portability, and occasional use as a reminder, but bigger and better needed by now. I'm just finishing my 2nd "level" (second year) of Greek, and I find a definite need for a more comprehensive dictionary. This one is very worn and well thumbed from its first 2 years of use, but it is starting to become inadequate a bit too often at this point. Hope this helps !
Excellent compact & modern

I have been studying Greek for nine years in intensive classes and have tried several dictionaries. This one easily fits in a book bag and I'm always amazed at how complete it is--it contains words that other larger dictionaries do not, and it is very up-to-date with definitions and idiom. If you only get one Greek/English dictionary--this is it. If you want a more complete (but not too portable) set, get the two from Stavropoulos (one is all Greek to English, the other all English to Greek).
