The first lessons in training kids are about getting along with others, not bugging them, and obeying your parents, right? Here's the perfect book to get you going on those important lessons! Each rule is presented in a full-page cartoon picture for young children to color as you teach each rule. Easy teaching instructions are included too. Each rule in this book is also included as a tear-out poster so you can study and master them one by one. We put ours in a binder in plastic page protectors as we learned them, then we can easily review them often. Some of the rules are "We obey our Lord Jesus Christ," "We tell the truth," "When we make a mess, we clean it up," and "We do not create unnecessary work for others" (I like that one!). The book ends with a sticky-proof, laminated master list of the 21 Rules ready to post as a good reminder. I have focused on one rule a week, introducing it with an impromptu story that I concoct to go along with the picture. My children listen attentively and are ready for the punchline, which is always "the rule." Then we memorize the rule. We review these each morning and remember to put the new rule into practice throughout the day. It sure helps to have a rule to fall back on when correcting children, rather than just saying "We don't do that." When a certain little boy in my home laughed to see his sister cry, I could remind him of one of our rules: "When someone is sad, we comfort him." Don't miss this book!
I love it and use the learned content nearly everyday

The 21 rules have been great. They're well stated and easy to remember. All we have to do is ask the kids (ages 6, 7, 9 and 11) 'What is rules #--?' based on the situation at hand and they are happy and proud they know the answer which seems to add the positive reinforcement aspect to correction. The repetition is great as children need LOTS of repetition when learning...'member reciting all those multiplication tables and spelling rules? Several of the rules are laid out, 'when you (do this) then you (do that)' The simple format gives a rhythmic sequence to follow making it a little easier for the kids to remember as well. Excellent product As far as anyone being concerned as to a child's ability to memorize 21 short phrases...sit and listen to them as they quote whole scenes from movies or ramble off verse after verse of their favorite song. Memorization is also a skill we must develop if we are to improve. This is a great starting point for working on memorization with very young children. I also suggest making LOTS of copies of the coloring pages...they color 'em over and over again and the more they look at those, the more it sinks in, even when they don't realize they're 'learning' anything just like coloring the same map over and over (repetition) it's also how my 6 year old son learned the names and locations of most of our great states. The coloring pictures they colored as we first went through the rules, we bound into booklets the younger kids are proud of and enjoy looking through.
a huge help

I ws suprised to find that this book is mostly a coloring book and alittle toward the religious side, HOWEVER, the change that I've seen take place in my family re incredible. My kids are 6 and 8 and these rules are a perfect guideline to better behaviour.
Great tool for reinforcing good behavior

My family has really benefited from this book. It's simple and straight forward. The younger ones enjoyed coloring. The rules are easy to discuss and fun, too. It's easy for the adults to refer back to the "rules" and reinforce them when situations occur.
Excellent Character Building Bible Study!

The rules in this set are based on biblical values. Although each rule is strongly biblically based, the author has chosen to allow each family to choose their own verse to include with each rule. Each rule set has its own small poster and a comical picture (drawn by the author's son) which children can color. This set is excellent! We have used it in our homeschooling curriculum with very young children, and it has proven to be a wonderful addition. I strongly recommend that every family utilize this set!
