Glad to see a new character!

I recently visited our local library looking for a "Prey" series book I had not read, and came across this book. I was hooked from the start and finished it within 24 hours. Now I have to go back and find another. That is my problem (if you can call it a problem) with John Sandford, the stories just pull you in. Great reading but make sure the doors are locked!

Don't read this book with Prey books in mind. Just enjoy it.

I had not read a Sandford book for about 2 years. I noticed this was a new venture and picked it up. I found it to be every bit as good as the prey books but it is different. I liked the plot and characters and hope that he continues with this line of books. I have since read a couple more Prey books and indeed enjoyed them. Don't make the mistake of trying to compare the two. it's to easy to get use to Davenport. Judge Night Crew on its own and I think you will give it 5 stars as I did.

Sanford writes from a woman's view eloquently!

I would like to give this book eight stars! I am a John Sanford fan, and totally dedicated to Lucas Davenport, anxiously awaiting each new adventure. I was disappointed that this book was not a 'Lucas Davenport' saga. That disappointment lasted only a few pages. I found his writing style different in this book, somehow fresher. Sanford has a habit of throwing so many different characters at me that I cannot keep them sorted. Not this time. In this carefully woven story Anna is revealed in tantalizing pieces. She is the head of a freelance 'night crew' that shoots video of breaking news. After their best night ever-two sensational high dollar videos-things begin to go dreadfully wrong. One of the cameramen is murdered hours after shooting the videos, and unthinkably, it begins to look as though his murder is related to one of these videos. Another of the crew is shot, and we begin to see that the center of the the maelstrom revolves around Anna. But why? Could she possi! bly know this brutal killer? And what would make him do this to the people that she cares about? You cannot put the story down. This is a book to treat youself with, a mini-vacation. It will take you away from whatever problems you think that you have. If you like John Sanford, you will LOVE this book. If you haven't cared for John Sanford in the past, I bet you will like this one. Very much!

Sandford lives up to his reputation.

While initially disappointed when I realized it was not another of the Lucas Davenport series, I was quickly hooked by the story line and the new cast of characters. As he has done with his "Prey" series he develops the characters well, but weaves in twists and turns that even the most avid mystery reader wouldn't think of. I was convinced on who the killer was only to be thrown a curve as the plot developed. The book was definitely a cannot put down, and in fact I finished it in less than two days. I am looking forward to more by Sandford involving these new characters. I particularly like "Jake" the ex-cop turned lawyer. As a retired police officer who then went on to law school I can empathize with him. Keep up the great writing
