The Nanotech War

Ever since I started watching Voyager about halfway through the series, I fell in love with it majorly. I like it better than any other Star Trek series, for the characters, the adventures, the races, technology, creatures, hard descions and starship battles. Voygaer represents all that can happen with the emotional part of life and all that can happen with the discovering part of life. When I heard of this new Voyager novel, I knew I had to get it.I would say that it's about time that they had a novel where the two main characters whom are captured, experimented upon, tortured, helped by the crew, and finally becoming the rescuers themselves are Tom Paris and Seven of Nine. Paris and Seven are my two top favorite characters of the Voyager cast and I have been waiting for an adventure when they were the main hero and heronie of the story. In this adventure Paris is the one who goes through more experimenting on and biological tamopering than Seven, who only has some of her nanoprobes extracted. Paris has his entire memory erased, which later puts a huge strain on all of his friends and most of all, his wife, B'Elanna Torres, and then he is stripped of his uniform and human clothing and outfitted with his own suit of Chiar nanites. After that, he is sold as a slave and forced to work around the clock under the hand of an abusive master. Seven is off of Voyager more than Paris, where she is imprisoned and betrayed by both conflicting sides of the Chiar society. And as in may cases, there is someone who wants the technology from her body to enhance their own. It's at this point when Seven has some of her nanoprobes extracted. Over confidence of the Chiar scientist proves to be deadly, and in the end, only Paris and Seven can save the Chiar homeworld.In this story, Seven of Nine learns more of her human side with the help of Commander Chakotay and comes closer to regaining her individuallity. Tom Paris gives us all an insight on why he loves B'Elanna Torres and of how he relearns his love is really touching. If you're a Voyager fan and don't have this book, GET IT!!

"The Nanotech War" explores the character and physiology of Seven of Nine in great detail, something remeniscent of the old ST:TNG Mega-novels that delved into Data's character.Beyond all that geeky stuff, Piziks puts together a killer plot, fast-paced scenario, and a great new alien race. If you're a fan of Star Trek books, definitely pick this one up.

I thoroughly enjoyed this voyager book. I think Voyager is the best of the star trek shows because of the relationship between the characters. It was always enjoyable to watch a show where the crewmembers showed such caring and respect for each other. This book was another great visit with the people I have grown to like so much. I didn't know Chacotay was 50 years old, but even if he is, I really liked the holodeck scenes - I have read all of the voyager books and look forward to more.

Anyone who is thinking about buying this book - DO IT! You will not be disappointed. This book has many references to the Chakotay/Seven relationship that we all saw at the end of the series. The relationship of B'Elanna Torres and Tom Paris is another focal point of this story, as B'Elanna tries to overcome the kidnapping of her new husband by a group of aliens, who appear to be very nice.Steve Piziks is a wonderful author, and the one question that comes to mind: Why haven't we heard of him before?

I'm entitled to that opinion because I've read them all.This book has an interesting and solid science fiction plot, and it nails the characters dead on. My only complaint (which I've finally convinced myself is not a reason to give it 4 stars instead of 5) is "not enough Janeway."I particularly enjoyed having someone give me a credible back story for the Chakotay/Seven of Nine romance that appeared so abruptly in "Endgame." Well done! I do hope this author will be writing more "Voyager" books!
