Mallas and Kreimer's Messier album is over 40 years old now, but it is still as useful as ever for the working astronomer. The images were state of the art when they were taken by Evereid Kreimer, and while they cannot now compete with Hubble shots, they still get the job done and are more than good enough for amateur astronomers observing these objects, not "armchair astronomers" intent on seeing pretty colors.

Mallas wrote for Sky and Telescope Magazine years ago, is a well done book with photos galore and Mallas descriptions using his 4 inch (Unitron) Refractor.. Slight weakness is the locaters not as well done as the modern Messier books available.. Strongly suggest it for anyone using this size instrument.... Still have my copy, and use it frequently.. Nice feature has about 7 pages in the back to log your entries, inculdes the Messier Checklist.... WARREN ...
