Jane's had her hardships too, and now is a divorced mom raising her five year old son totally on her own. She loves her job working as Professor Harrison's secretary and she wants to help him keep his job. So she goes to Smith for help in searching the archives of the school, hoping to find evidence of the Prof.'s good deeds. Jane wasn't in her dorm room when Smith went to see her all those years ago. That was the night the thefts had happened. Being accused then makes him wary now and reluctant to get involved with Jane's plans to use his master keys to search the archives. The feelings of attraction he had for her then seem so much stronger now and he adores her son. He finds himself dreaming of family, something he always had felt he hadn't deserved.
