The Man Who Loved Women

I am thoroughly enjoying "The Man Who Loved Women". I'm reading it with my daughters as a group study. It is teaching us many things about the women in the bible and about our own lives. It is an easy-read and I feel the author really brings new life to the stories involving bible women and how Jesus impacted their lives.

First, each chapter begins with a life experience that relates to contemporary women. I found these stories expanded my understanding, in ways I could not imagine, of how Jesus relates to the everyday problems I face. Second, the stories of the Biblical women contain facts and historical information that was new and helpful to me. Even though I have read the bible, the 18 women that were profiled, have come alive and I was not only encouraged, but inspired by their stories. Third, I found the study guides to be the most beneficial I have ever used. The questions didn't ask for routine answers. I had to think about my own feeling and needs. Thanks you to the author for an enlightening and inspirational book about Jesus and his love of women.

My wife asked me to read this book, "The Man Who Loved Women". Wow, what a blessing it was. Normally, I am a very slow reader,yet once I started reading I spent every free moment I had with this book. I must admit I was capivated by this compilation of stories of women of the New Testament and their encounters with Jesus, stories I had once passed over to get to some "important" truth in the scriptures. I thank the author for the way she told this message, written in such a way that caused me to realize we all can identfy with at least one of these stories and understand that trully Jesus cares - He doesn't just pass over an individual to get to someone more important. This book about Jesus' relationships with 18 New Testament women promises that "as their stories unfold, so will your own." Well, it's true! Times in my life that I'd forgotten by chance or buried by choice came flooding back to me with every woman whose circumstance reminded me of my own. In fact, in one way or another, I identified with the needs of all 18 women in the book, which wasn't as surprising to me as this - I now feel closer to Jesus than I ever have in my life. Now that I know how Jesus helped the labeled, rejected, insecure, hopeless, stressed, worried and other "broken" women He met, I know how Jesus can help me. That's a big step for a woman whose Bible study was previously limited to my infrequent visits to church with my grandparents as a kid. Maybe that's why I was initially intimidated by a book about Jesus, and why I so appreciated the friendly, conversational writing style of author Dorothy Valcarcel, including insights that could only come from a woman who has been studying the Bible all of her life. The Man Who Loved Women definitely exceeded my expectations, with 1) more details about the lives of these 18 New Testament women than I even knew existed, 2) end-of-chapter study guides that showed me how to see my life as Jesus would, and 3) dozens of cited sources illustrating the extensive research that the author put into this book. Finally, I was especially moved by the contemporary stories that Dorothy Valcarcel uses to begin each chapter. Her own personal experiences juxtaposed with the stories of New Testament women brilliantly illustrate the needs we share, including the timeless need for Jesus in our lives.
