A Man Who Loves Romantic Stories

How can anyone not love Jane or this book. Like Jack Finney's "Love letter" or Richard Matheson's "Bid Time Return it takes you from the harshness of the real world and plunks you down in the world of charming romantic fantasy. I also recommend to you, if you like escapist Romance without the silly bodice ripping, this book "the Countess below the Stairs"

Frivolous fun, great for Darcy fantasists and dreamers

If you've ever imagined yourself in love with Darcy (or Colin Farrell ?!) then you'll love this fun canter through time travel and high romance. Historical and literary allusions are light touch and largely vehicles for the story only, as is most of the characterisation. The story: a) what if Darcy was real ? b) what if you found a letter that might be from Jane Austen herself and about a great literary conundrum ? c) what if you could meet and fall in love with a romantic hero from one of your favourite books ? No need to have read Pride and Prejudice or any Austen novels to enjoy the tale, though odd comments (like the references do Jane's short life) are more for fans than general readers. SPOILER - Darcy is a time traveller from the future who meets Jane in her own time

Clever, intriguing Mr. Darcy fantasy fiction! A keeper!

It's a fantastical fiction -- so I don't get why others are so opposed to this story. I thought it clever and totally entertaining. A great way to spend an evening. Honestly, I find myself blushing defending the absurdity of the premise of Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy accidentally time travelling through a portal from modern day to the regency era (yes, it's a stretch!,) meeting Miss Austen herself, falling in-love with her, resulting in the re-writing of First Impressions/Pride and Prejudice. Rather than be a complete spoiler (because that is just part of the story...) believe me when I say, I was totally sucked in. I'm only sorry I didn't buy it in hardback as this was an intriguing book of fantasy Mr. Darcy fiction.

An Absolutely...

enthralling fantasy adventure. An open-minded look at a "what if" for P & P. I enjoyed it immensely and finished it in one evening.

Best book for me in 2006

Thank you Sally Smith O'Rourke for your wonderfully romantic book "The Man who loved Jane Austen". I read it all in one sitting and was totally absorbed into every page. Being a fan of Pride and Prejudice and other Jane Austen books, I thoroughly enjoyed how you weaved the past and present together. Bravo!! I absolutely admired and ardently loved it!!! Hopefully another book will follow to continue our journey with Eliza and Mr.Darcy! gkz
