The Man Who Lived in Inner Space is the type of story that stays with you long after you've finished it. Unfortunately, it's been unavailable generally for some time now. But if you can get you're hands on a copy, buy it! This novel concerns an engineer, crippled and disfigured in his youth, who designs and builds a sea-going craft in which he embarks on a new life, shunning the world of men. The ship stays underwater, so once he has embarked, he can never go back to land again. Propulsion is attained by utilizing the natural ocean currents. The book is filled with a myriad of interesting details of what he observes on his journeys. Yet it is his inner psychological state that is probably the main focus of the story. Altho taking great joy in his new existence, he finds he can't, in the end, escape the world of humanity he has spurned. That, and his approaching death occupy the last part of the tale. There is a fantasy portion to the story at the end, which some readers may feel detracts somewhat from the otherwise hard science approach he takes in the rest of it. Others may feels it enhances the storyline. At any rate, a book to read, re-read, and think about after it's done. Once again, find it and buy it!
