Best Werewolf Anthology in Print...

This is probably the best anthology of werewolf stories currently in print. It is an updated version of an earlier text (re-printed for a tie-in with the movie, The Wolfman). It is not a "definitive" collection because many classic stories were omitted in favor of newer tales by more modern writers. My favorites are mostly the older stories however, such as The Werewolf, by R. Chetwynd-Hayes and The Cell by David Case. I also enjoyed Twilight at the Towers by Clive Barker and Guilty Party by Stephen Laws.

Not Free SF Reader

An anthology that has some original, some reprint, and rates out at about where you would expect, somewhere in between your standard original anthology, and standard reprint anthology. The start with Clive Barker, and Charnas and Newman at the end are the highlights. There's another bad case of editorialus author musthavitis, here, too, where Jones has to take a few sentences justifying why he picked Etchison. Basically boiling down to 'I really like him'. Excellent anthology, you gotta get it!

This anthology is an absolutely essential addition to any respectable werewolf or general horror collection. I would rate it equal to or better than The Ultimite Werewolf. I was transfixed, carried it everywhere, and it IS a little hefty (but then again, most anthologies are). But, it was certainly worth the effort and not really too big to stuff in a bag or really large pocket. I truly believe this book has a story for everyone, even those who aren't huge horror buffs. The authors range from the extremely well known, to the less recognizable. My personal favorite story was the Zorro story (second to last in the book - you gotta wait to get there).
