One Man's Music For anyone interested in the workings of the mind and the medical professionals who devote their lives to this study, psychiatrist David Viscott's 1972 autobiography is a great read. Written with humor, style, and passion, this is a wonderful primer for psychology students. As a certified music therapist working in psychiatric facilities, I found ever sentence believable and true.
A Psychiatrist's Excellent Journey

David Viscott tells the story of his journey to becoming a licensed psychiatrist in an interesting, compelling, and often humorous manner. It is a hefty volume at over 400 pages, but I wished it could have been longer. Dr. Viscott has a strong personality and gets what he wants in most situations, but he doesn't claim to know everything. The important thing he does is to try to do what's best for his patients. This is a book to savor. Read every word!

Even though this was written 20 some years ago, the book is still very acurate about what goes on in state assylums and clinics today. Dr. Viscott is a wonderful story teller. His honesty about his struggles and humorous incounters with patients are through out this book making it an enjoyable read. It is a great book for any person who is interested in psychiatry or psychology, for it is easy to read and understand.
