The Magic Grandfather is probably Doris Miles Disney's best mystery novel (and my personal favorite). A quick synopsis: Henrietta Lane is a respected widow in her upscale Connecticut town. No one knows that over twenty years ago, she'd left a sordid past behind to start a new life. So she is understandably shocked to open up her front door one day to find Dan Ferris standing there. Ferris was her first father-in-law, an entertainer on vaudeville in the 1920's. She had believed she'd never see him again and now here he was on her door step, with a suitcase in hand. And Dan Ferris is bringing more than a suitcase with him. He has a trunk full of memories. Memories of jealousy, hatred, obsession and murder. Highly recommended for fans of Mrs. Disney.
