Great publication

In The Lord's Way, Elder Oaks constrasts the ways of the Lord with the ways or methods of the world in resolving such issues as these: What is the relationship between learning by study (reason) and learning by faith (revelation) -- and when should each be used? What is the difference between the proofs of science and the signs or miracles that the Lord has told us we should not seek? How should we care for the poor among us? Why should we avoid contention? When are we justified in participating in litigation? Why should we refrain from faultfinding and evil-speaking, and how should we resolve differences with others, especially leaders? How does church discipline differ from civil or criminal procedures? This book is very thought provoking and inspiring. Elder Oaks offers wonderful advice to help us meet everyday challenges.

Great information for church leaders

Dallin H. Oaks has the ability to compare and contrast the differences between the Lord's way and man's way with an inspiring perspective. The chapters include: 1. Learning 2. Reason and Revelation 3. Signs and Science 4. Care for the Poor 5. Contention 6. Litigation 7. Criticism 8. Church Discipline I found the book valuable on a personal level (especially Learning, Reason and Revelation, Signs and Science, Contention, Criticism) and a ministerial level (especially Litigation, Contention, Criticism, Church Discipline). In a world that constantly teaches revelation and reason in an eithor/or relationship, it's refreshing to be reminded that the Lord wants to reason with us. Ultimately, everything he does is logical when we see from His perspective. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:9) Favorite quote from the book: "I find some wisdom in liberalism, some wisdom in conservatism, and much truth in intellectualism - but I find no salvation in any of them."
