One of my favorites.

Finally, a book about old friends where the heroine hasn't been pining for the hero since she was ten! Sam is independant and quirky. She discovers that love can bloom from friendship, but she didn't spend the interim waiting miserably (and virginally) for him to turn to her. Sam lives her own life, and has all along. The part of the other woman was original also. Whitney and Sam genuinely are friends, and Whitney has quirks and problems of her own. She isn't all perfect, and she isn't all evil witch, the truth lies somewhere in between, in reality.Cullum is the only tiresome character, but Sam and Erin, Sam's sister, and Whitney, and even Neal Beaumont (the other man) were so refreshing that I didn't mind.

A First Place Winner!

I'm not sure what book the'reader from Maine' was referring to, but it could'nt have been "The Long Shot"by Michelle Martin. 'The Long Shot'has everything you could possibly want in a romance novel - a hot, steamy romance, a good mystery to keep you guessing, an interesting background story, years of unrequeited love, plenty of interesting 'second string' characters, lots of sharp, snappy, witty dialog to keep you turning pages, and even a few surprises. I just wish this story could have been longer, but had to settle for pulling out my copies of 'Stolen Moments'and 'Stolen Hearts' - not exactly a hardship since they're two more Martin faves. If you want a good book to get completely lost in for a while, pick this one up today. After all, is'nt that the reason we fans read romance novels in the first place? Enjoy!

its my favourite

i love this book, its the best ihave ever read! actually i have read it for 4 times without gettin bored, its full of surprises and really perfect...really words cant help all i wanna say

This book had everything.

This book took me by surprise a couple of times. I love to be surprised by an author. Samantha is just the type of character to catch my interest. She is bold, but vulnerable at the same time. She is willing to take on her responsibilities, and not sit around feeling sorry for herself and asking a man to fix it for her. I really dislike the women that are helpless. Sam does her own thing as quietly as possible for something that she loves and is more than worth working for. She is able to accept help when it becomes apparent that she can't handle it all by herself, and she doesn't have to because her sister, and then Cullen show her that she has one big family that loves her. Cullen learns that no matter what, a family lives, loves and forgives easier than you can forgive yourself. Love it is what makes the world go 'round.

good dialogue,fast paced,sympathatic characters

As a first time reader of Michelle Martin, I was pleased to have another author to add to my list of names to watch for new releases. I would recommend this author to anyone who is looking for a well paced plot, with some action (although not so much as an adventure category). Ms. Martin's strong suit is her snappy and even witty dialogue, which is a must to keep any book from dragging. This book does not drag... The characters are well developed, secondary as well as primary, and even the antagonist has qualities that keep her human, rather than a cookie cutter "bad guy." Perhaps the only complaint, and this is a minor one, would be that there may be more attention paid to the details of horse dressage than the average romance reader may be interested in. But that merely makes it informative, if one wishes to brush up on that subject. I highly approve of Ms. Martin's writing skills. The book caught my attention because of the comparison to Susan Elizabeth Phillips on the back of the jacket. If any readers are fans of Ms. Phillips, they will enjoy this book as well. I immediately ordered a back copy of one of Ms. Martin's earlier books after completing this one.
