Beyond words

Harry Farra's book, the Little Monk,is difficult to put down because of the simplicity of depth within it's story. This is a book that will be a thought provoking story each time it is read, there is always something new that will light a candle in your mind. Harry Farra's story telling has made me wish I could have walked with the Little Monk, listened to his prayers, cried beside him as his heart wept for others and stood beside him in his persecutions. His faithful companion, "Purr" is a silent friend that speaks novels of love to the Little Monk and those around him. With God, the Little Monk is taken beyond where he ever dreamed of going and becomes more than his compassionate heart ever thought capable. You will enjoy this little book, along with the sequel, "The Early Days of the Little Monk" (but don't read the sequel first!) time and time again. They are books suitable for children and adults. Thank you Harry !

written with childlike simplicity and beauty

I read this book twice. The first time I read the story, just like a child. The second time I went back and absorbed its literary style and thoughts. The story is like a well written fairy tale, but the messages are surprisingly applicable to ordinary people. Have to read and ponder a bit deeper though. Glad that I read it twice. The second time I discovered the little monk in myself. Easy reading with a lot to gain, very cost effective for time.

Peace

In 1901 England, a young man sets out on a spiritual odyssey. Becoming a monk, he is sent to a far off monastery, so that he can learn to be a champion of prayer. Along this path, the little monk learns about silence, solitude and tranquility. He learns about love, joy, prayer and peace. In light of recent events, at one time I began to think that this was not the right time to read this book. Later, though, I began to realize that this is the perfect time to read this book. In a time of tumult and alarum, it is right and proper to think about peace, where it can be found and how it can be acquired. This short book is a quick read, with simple but fitting illustrations, one that I recommend.
