best introduction to food politics ever

I cannot believe there is (at this point) only one review of this book. Each topic in "The Little Food Book"is short enough to read in minutes and gives a magnificent summary of the topic. Each topic is presented briefly but in depth and highly readable. Keep this book handy because the content will haunt you and cause you to question all the nutrition info you've heard in your lifetime. At this point I've lost my copy. I gave it to my son who gave it to a friend who gave it to...This was the book that prompted my search into the politics of food If you want an expanded version look at Marion Nestle's "What to Eat". But that's if you start to get really serious about battling for the health of our nation. Start with "Little Food Book".

Food for the Mind

Following the success of its companion publication, THE LITTLE EARTH BOOK, this new title tackles many issues on the subject of food culture: including genetic modification, the food chain, farming subsidies, the environmental impacts of intensive agriculture, fast food and obesity, the slow food movement, organic farming, fair trade, nutrition, functional food, hydrogenated fats, hormones and so on. Slim, concise and to the point, this pocket-sized gem nevertheless comprises nearly 50 well-researched essays, all short enough to ingest on a bite-sized basis. Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation, describes it as "A wonderful little book about how to do good by eating well." Indeed, in this day and age, you not only are what you eat - but so is the planet. Along with this, you might also want to check out THE FOOD REVOLUTION and the OMNIVORE'S DILEMMA, two other highly-recommended culinary delights.
