The Lies of Harry Wakatipu

This is a great book in the tradition of the tall tale. The author draws on his real life experiences as a deer-culler (noxious pests in New Zealand at the time) to create the tale of the laziest, most treacherous pack-horse imaginable. Supposed to be a loyal mate, Harry guzzles tins of sweetened condensed milk, bullies the nameless storyteller and avoids work of any kind. Harry became my 5 year old nephew's favourite book character- his naughtiness is irresistable.
