Lemons are a great and versatile source of Vitamin C

I just got this book after reading about it in Women's World Magazine (WWM) recently, and I've already been adding a lot of lemon to my diet after reading the magazine. Lemon tastes sunny, healthy and delicious on almost everything, I've discovered! According to the article from October 27, 2008, "The Lemon Juice Diet" book by Theresa Cheung (a health journalist) explains that when we're low on C, we can't perform a key step in fat-burning process so we burn muscle instead of fat. Muscle loss then leaves us flabbier and causes metabolism to drop. Drinking lemonade (made with natural lemons, of course) and squeezing real lemon juice on your meats, salads, desserts, and vegetables can help break this terrible cycle, the book explains. We also feel more energized when C levels are higher. Other fruits that are high in Vitamin C would be helpful, too, I'm sure. (I love to drink Vitamin Water, myself, because it's not too sweet or carbonated. Dragonfruit and Citrus are my favorites and are high in C.) According to Arizona State Univ. Carol Johnson, Ph.D. who was also quoted in the article, sugar and Vitamin C fight for the same pathways to the bloodstream. So, if you have enough Vitamin C in your system, the vitamin enters the bloodstream ahead of sugar and lowers the rate that sugar is absorbed so you won't get sugar highs and lows. The Vitamin C will then also lower levels of fat-storage hormones, cravings, and appetite! Goodbye, fat! I can't wait to see how much healthier I feel in a month!
