Suzie Housley, Midwest Book Review

Honey Hollow is a place where bears find peace, when their own worlds are invaded by men who are intent to destroy their land. One day the peace is disturbed when the trees begin to disappear. The men come to tear down the happy land but the inhabitants refuse to be sad. Even though things are changing before their very eyes, their friendships are strong to survive. When a group of children find themselves in trouble, the bear group unites to save their lives. Together human and animal bring the forest back to life. Jeanne McNaney's Legend of Honey Hollow (Book One of the Honey Hollow Series) is an outstanding children's book. It offers a unique way to introduce children to the instinct animals around the world. The illustrations are brilliant; they offer an overall enhancement that lends magic to the story.

This is a beautifully written tale about endangered bears both children and adults will love!

Everyone in the entire world has a home, including bears like Grendel. She was a polar bear who lived in the arctic seas. It was a very nice home until some very insensitive and rude people destroyed her home by digging for gas and oil. Those selfsame people were creating global warming and the ice was melting. It was turning into a catastrophe and she just had to find a new home! Jeanne McNaney, author of The Legend of Honey Hollow, who knows all about endangered bears and Honey Hollow, tells us the story of Grendel's newly found home. Honey Hollow, a legendary place where bears could seek sanctuary, was just the place she was looking for. Everything was clean and pure there, just like it used to be many years ago. Grendel floated all the way on a piece of ice from the Arctic Sea. She was greeted by Serenity, a little brown bear cub from North America and welcomed to the Hollow by her parents, Ursa Major and Aurora. Honey Hollow was a paradise where endangered bears were coming from around the world when their habitats were threatened. There was Mackenzie, an Appalachian black bear, Fernando, A spectacled bear from the Andes Mountains and Ming-Yi, a panda bear from China. All of a sudden the bears noticed that developers were coming in and cutting down all the trees! The Bear Council had to hurry up and have a meeting. Could Honey Hollow be saved? Would the endangered bears of future generations have a place to go?! I was very thrilled with the quality of the writing and message this book had to impart to its young readership. Jeanne McNaney wove a touching tale and the wonderful illustrations by David Cochard were very complimentary. This is reality-based fiction and the author backs up her beliefs by donating a portion of the proceeds to "organizations that support wildlife conservation and endangered species preservation." In addition the book is printed on environmentally friendly paper. Any parent opting to add this one to their child's library can't go wrong!

Excellent Teaching

The Legend of Honey Hollow by Jeanne McNaney, illustrated by David Cochard is a delightful book for pre-school and early elementary children to introduce the principles and reasons for protecting wildlife and practicing conservation. In the story when the bears' habitats are destroyed they escape to the enchanted forest of Honey Hollow and are saved by the children of the loggers. The wonderfully appealing illustrations by this French artist are captivating and draw parents and children into the plight of the bears in the story. At an early age children with this book can learn the inter-connectedness of all life, so that future generations will do a better job than their parents and grandparents to protect the earth and endangered species. For children to learn these concepts early and in a fun way is the best way for the future of the earth.

Destined to become a classic!

I PURCHASED THE LEGEND OF HONEY HOLLOW , BY MS. JEANNIE MCNANNEY LAST WEEK, AS I THOUGHT THE COVER WEAS JUST GORGEOUS! HOWEVER,I FOUND THAT IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF WHAT THIS WONDEROUS TREASURE HOLDS WITHIN . THIS BOOK FEATURES BRIGHTLY COLORED, LUSH WORLD CLASS ILLUSTRATIONS WOVEN AROUND AN INTRICATE STORY LINE. THE DIALOGUE IS UNCOMPLICATED ENOUGH FOR A YOUNG CHILD TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH.QUITE EASILY. IT STIMULATED MY 4 YEAR OLDS' IMAGINATION, AND SHE IS ALREADY ASKING FOR MORE STORIES WITH GRENDAL IN THEM! AT THIS YOUNG AGE, SHE TRUELY BELIEVES THE CHARACTERS ARE REAL, AND SHE IS GENUINELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE OVERALL MORALE OF THE STORY LINE. HATS OFF TO MS. MCNANNEY FOR BRINGING MY CHILD SUCH JOY!!!! IN SUMMARY, THE LEGEND OF HONEY HOLLOW IS DESTINED TO BECOME A CLASSIC, AND SHOULD BE MANDATORY READING IN ALL KINDERGARTEN & ELEMENTARY CLASSROOMS. Legend of Honey Hollow (Honey Hollow Series, Book One)

Top Of The Line! A Must Read!

As we begin this delightful tale we meet Grendel, a polar bear and Serenity, a brown bear cub, and several others as the story moves on. Grendel is tired. He has been floating on a big piece of ice all the way from the Arctic Sea just to get to Honey Hollow. Why? Because his home land is being destroyed, and his life was at risk. He had to reach Honey Hollow where there is clean water, the air is pure and life is great. Grendel shares with the other bears at Honey Hollow all that is happening to his land back home, and they share with him their stories as well. Man has invaded all of their spaces, causing death and misery. The problem worsens when suddenly man invades Honey Hollow and a solution must be found before all the bears are destroyed. The bears turn to a very unlikely source for help, children. Will the bears and the children be able to stop the destruction that is taking place? You will have to read this book to find out. The Legend of Honey Hollow is a wonderful book. The illustrations are absolutely adorable, and the expressions on the bears add so much to each situation that they are experiencing, whether it be a joyous or troublesome one. I also enjoyed the identification of the different bears and where they lived. The story is a sad one, in part, but one that I applaud the author for sharing. Jeanne McNaney brings to life the environmental issues that the bears of the world are facing. She did a great job in bringing the bears down to a level where children (and adults) can relate to them in a personal way, thus making their problems, which are our problems as well, more real. Not only does she bring to light the environmental problems, but she shows how working in unity for one common good can bring victory. I feel she also brings out the importance animals have in our world, something that is often overlooked by many. The Legend of Honey Hollow is a book that every child and adult should read. In our fast paced world we tend to forget the sacrifices taking place and the harm that is being done to those who share it with us, just to have more of one thing or another. We need to stop and think before we plunge into another's space on this earth, be it human or animal, and realize the consequences of our actions. Very well done. Highly recommended.
