Book Overview

A publishing event #1 New York Times bestselling author Terry Goodkind turns in a new direction and delivers a stunningly original thriller. Turning twenty-seven may be terrifying for some, but for Alex, a struggling artist living in the midwestern United States, it is cataclysmic. Inheriting a huge expanse of land should have made him a rich and happy man; but something about this birthday, his name, and the beautiful woman whose life he just saved,...

great book--great author

I believe this can be a stand-alone book, but this is clearly part of the Sword of Truth series. To fully grasp what Terry Goodkind has laid out in The Law of Nines I highly recommend reading all 12 of his past books. This book is about what became of the two worlds that Richard Rahl created in the last SOT book: Confessor. The story may not compare to the series in quality and complexity, but I love the way Terry Goodkind writes and I'm not disappointed in the least. To everyone that gave this a bad review because they were too ignorant to read SOT to fully understand The Law of Nines, they shouldn't have bought this book in the first place. It's like reading Return of the King before the Fellowship of the Ring. So before you bash this title, go out and do a little research. And to anyone that thinks Terry Goodkind made a mistake by drastically changing his world he built in SOT, he is only human and he was probably just burnt out on writing such a long series. If you were a writer and spent a decade on one story, you would want to change things up a bit. I'm just happy he is still writing and he has more in store for the future. I can't wait for his next book. I'm still hoping someone will make a movie worthy of SOT. That lame excuse of a television series, Legend of the Seeker, is an embarrassment to everything Terry Goodkind created. But that is an argument for another day. I hope you all have a great day. May the good spirits be with you...

I can't wait for the next one!

I can see many similarities between the Sword of Truth and this book. The Law of Nines is a fantastic introduction to the continuation of the series. Although the two worlds are centuries apart, I still view it as a continuation. I can see much of Richard reflected in Alex. Although this book contained much tragedy (then again, so did SoT), I am extremely enthusiastic about reading the rest of this series. As a side note, I am a college student and I rarely have time to read for recreation, but Terry Goodkind is someone whose works I *always* make time for! In each book of his that I have read, I feel deeply connected to the people he has created, as if I were accompanying them on their journeys.

not intended for the weak minded

I have read all 10 books in the SOT series, not to mention the Prequel debt of bones. *SPOILER* In confessor, book 10, Richard opens a new dimension, one without magic and sends all of those who believe in the imperial orders teachings through. along with them, His sister decides to go into that world to make a new life, and to continue the name of Rahl. The law of nines takes place in this "new world". I'm an unsure how long passes between the events of Confessor and the events of The law of nines. It is excellent, as to be expected from Goodkind. before you pick this book up, I would advise you to think about whether or not you like your mind to be challenged. Because this book WILL push your imagination to its limits. For my fellow SOT lovers, upon reading the first chapter, the connections to SOT are, for lack of a better word, very obvious, which made me very happy. However I was surprised by the very distinct Tone/mood of the book. It is very unlike the SOT. It does not have the same "feel" to it that the SOT series had. And it gives it an independent quality, while still retaining the connection to SOT. before i spoil anything, I must conclude this review. Get the book. If you haven't read SOT, then you can still pick up this book, but you wont get the full affect that I feel Goodkind intended. but no one should miss out on it, BUY IT My respect go out to Mr. Terry Goodkind, Absolute genius. That is all.

Exciting

I was very excited to jump into this whole new territory with Terry Goodkind. I loved it! It was great to see the nods to SoT for the fans. This can be read without reading any SoT at all. I can't wait for the next book to see what new adventures and thrills Goodkind will have in store for us.

LoN is an oustanding read

LoN was an outstanding book. Terry has shown that genre does not matter as long as the story is good. LoN is a contemporary thriller with many twists and turns. The books mixes action and suspense well and there are many great moments in the books. This book is not part of Terry's SOT series, but it is loosely connected. This gave Terry a chance to put in some little touches as homage to his current fans, while writing a book that can be enjoyed by anyone who has not read one of his other books. All in all, I feel this book can be enjoyed by everyone new fans and old. Sorry for the lack of specific details of the book, but I hate reviews that spoil things for people.
