I was surprised by the negative review presented by The School Library Journal. My son and I loved this book!! When he was a pre-teen, he and I used to read books together; and this was our absolute favorite. I guess that our literary palates weren't sophisticated enough to recognize that it wasn't good. ;-) THAT IS ONE LATE, GREAT BOOK!!!
The Late, Great Dick Hart

I read this book when I was in about fifth or sixth grade. It may not have been the best written book, but the story was very easy to follow. I never liked to read before I read this book. The only time I read was when the teacher forced us to do so. After reading The Late, Great Dick Hart, I realized that reading could be fun and that it could be interesting. I recommend this book to anyone who has a child that has not found their interest in the written word.
Beautiful unique and powerful and it's a kids book!

I loved this book and still remember it after more than 10 years. It is unique take on what happens to people when they die and how happiness, timing, and God all come into play. Some of the imagery in this book I can recall to this day like painted pictures, the descriptions are so crisp. I would not listen to those who say this book is too descriptive, these are the same people who probably can't get through Chapter 1 in a Stephen King novel.

I read this book 10-15 years ago, when I was still in Elementary School. It was the first book I really loved. It made me cry, and laugh, and then miss the characters terribly when it was over.
