The Lafitte brothers were privateers, legally commandeering ships and cargoes with permission from the USA and Spain. They were also American patriots who assisted Andrew Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans against the British (1814-15). Their lieutenants, heroes of these stories, are entirely fictional characters.
