The Land and People of Canada

I recognized the author's name from his many years on the NY Times. But this book was more interesting. I guess it was written for young adults. But even in middle-age I came away understanding much more about Canada--and the United States. He has a special knack for teaching large lessons through the small story and the accumulation of very interesting details. I had not realized how much I did not know about that next-door country. Now I understand the news better and I enjoyed getting to that point. What more could I ask from a book? I'm going to track down Malcolm's other books; there's a new one on hockey, I heard.
