This is a gem and a true classic

Beautiful book! Wont be appreciated unless you can understand english the way it was written in those years. If you do you'll appreciate this gem. Its full of true stories and these books were in every orphanage in the late 1800's.

I have enjoyed the teaching in this book.

We are reading this book to our daughters. After reading some of the others feedback, I have to ask, "How can teaching your child the value of picking up her room feminist?". One of the stories is of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette's daughter. How she was in a prison, and had grace. She also kept her room clean! It parallels a story of a daughter who wants to be a princess and have servants to not keep her room clean. So, she tells her of "The Kings Daughter". It has many lessons in this book ( and was written in the early 1900's ) that are not of the same value as most people today. I think it's a beautiful book, with traditional teaching.

"Beautiful Girlhood" for younger girls

If you want to plant christian seeds before your girl(s) are quite old enough to understand Beautiful Girlhood, this is the book to get. This book has a wonderful way of teaching biblical virtues, such as guidng your tongue from saying hurtful things, the consequences of not keeping clothing and/or bedroom clean, and how you can be kind and genourus no matter how rich or poor you are. Even though the book talks of things such as "keeping your clothes mended and tidy" it is not mennonite. it is clearly christian, though staged in the 19th century. In case you can't tell, I highly recommend this book!

The King's Daughter

I have been using this as a read aloud book for my daughters and they have really enjoyed it. It is refreshingly old fashioned and encourages girls to be kind, truthful, unselfish, a disciple of Christ, to think of others before themselves, to be modest, industrious, thrifty, to grow into a virtuous woman, etc. It is not very politically correct and the author is pretty blunt in her assessments of people and situations at times (at least more blunt than I would be). The King's Daughter is probably for girls not over around 13 or so years old (unless they are not used to worldly reading, then they would enjoy it even beyond that age). I would compare this book to Beautiful Girlhood, although King's Daughter is probably for a younger girl than Beautiful Girlhood. Another book it could be compared to is Dear Princess, although King's Daughter contains stories as opposed to Dear Princess which contains short statements on various topics. The King's Daughter is also a good lead in to a short devotional or discussion on various topics.
