Must Have!

Stephen Elkins is a best-selling author, musician, and Grammy-nominated producer. He is author of the 100 Bible Stories series and Read-n-See DVD Bible. Claudine Gevry illustrator of over sixty books including "The Jesus Book". Her whimsical style is shown throughout this book. About the Book The Jesus book is one of the best resources and educational guides that I've seen for children on the market! Author Stephen Elkins makes understanding everything we need to know about Jesus very simple by breaking it down in the following seven sections: * Who Jesus Is * What Jesus Did * What Jesus Taught * When It Happened * Why It Happened * How It Happened A very useful time line is included in the When it Happened section starting the readers in Genesis and ending in John. Located in the Where it Happened section you'll find colorfully illustrated maps that show were Jesus walked throughout his journey. In the What Jesus Taught section you'll find that Jesus liked to minister to those around him with parables and you'll see how he taught us to pray. In the Why and How it happened section, children will learn why Jesus was sent to save us and how it happened. Each mini story of explanation is backed with scripture that you may choose to look up in your own Bible to show children how what they are being taught is also in the Bible. I think it's never to early to teach children to look to the Word of God for answers that they may be seeking. A fun thirty song filled cd by the Wonder Kids is also included featuring well loved Bible songs like Stand Up For Jesus, God is so Good, and Do Lord just to name a few of the wonderful tracks. My Thoughts Stephen Elkins has done a wonderful job with this book. Illustrator Claudine Gevry also does a great job in bringing to life each page with her colorful eye catching illustrations. The music cd is a great addition as many of the songs I grew up listening to as a child! I am looking forward to sharing this book with my children, as I know many questions that may be asked or pondered about Jesus will be answered. This book would be great for home, church, and even school use. I give this book 5 stars!

The Jesus Book, by Steohen Elkins, illustrated by Claudine Gevry

The Jesus Book, by Stephen Elkins, is a marvelous resource for anyone who wants to share about Jesus' life and love with children! When I opened this book up, I thought, "Wow! This is amazing...a question and answer book about Jesus...with maps and a CD!" The Jesus book, with its clear writing and colorful, lively illustrations by Claudine Gevry, really pleasantly surprised me with an incredible wealth of information. All at once, the little book is a picture book, a resource book, and the only book you really need to explore those really difficult questions about Jesus' life with your children. While I am reading this with my four year old, I also intend to leave it on the coffee table for my older children. I think anyone can benefit from the truths revealed in this book. The book is color coded, with sections ranging from Who Jesus is and What Jesus did to What he taught, and even Why it Happened. The author does not shy away from subjects that are often difficult to explain to children, such as, Why did Jesus die on the cross for me? The book even includes little timelines, a scripture and topical index, and an index for names and places referenced within the book. Oh! And on top of all that, a music CD with 30 songs is included. The songs are sweet and adorable, mainly sung by children...perfect for young children. Titles include favorites like His Banner Over Me, O How I love Jesus, and Deep and Wide. Highly Suggest for all Elementary Age Children

I received this book in the mail and had to fight off my children to look at it first. They were drawn to the pictures and immediately wanted me to read it to them. Thumbing through the book, I also found the pictures very inviting. The book is organized in a wonderful why to help a child get to know Jesus as a Personal God. As a mom of preschool age children, I realized that several of the words used in the short stories were above their comprehension but I am excited to dig into the book deeper as they get older - into elementary school age. The book is laid out in a way that would be perfect for night time devotions - reading either 1 story a night or more if time allows. Although the book is stated for ages 4-8, I believe that children closer to ages 6 and 7 will be able to grasp the concepts better. My five year old enjoyed listening to the book but I felt much of the vocabulary was not understood. It was the simplicity of the stories that really drew me to this book. There are Biblical concepts that are hard to explain to a young child. The author of the book laid out the explainations in a way that made hard things look easy. I love the maps and timelines which would compliment a school history lesson.

Book Review: The Jesus Book by Stephen Elkins

As Christian parents, we have a desire for our children to not just know about Jesus, but to have a personal relationship with Him as well. For many parents, being able to translate the things of God into a language that young, learning minds can understand is sometimes hard. The Jesus Book by Stephen Elkins is a great place to start. This book asks and answers most every question that young minds ask about Jesus. Elkins does a great job at listing the references in the Bible that correspond to the answers to each question. He also highlights key terms and phrases, which is ideal in case a child has a question about what the word means. The book is divided into seven broad parts: Who Jesus Is, What Jesus Did, What Jesus Taught, When It Happened, Where It Happened, Why It Happened, and How It Happened. The book also comes with a thirty song CD of children's Bible songs which is also a great way to get them to learn the truths of God's Word. This book is probably most suitable for ages 3-7 on average; right around the time they are learning and asking questions about the things around them and starting to read for themselves. Overall, this book is a great resource for parents and a valuable teaching tool for younger children.
