The Irish Bride

I don't mean adult, as in racy, but adult in the context that here is a historical romance of "real" characters-hard working, low to middle income folks like the rest of us. You won't find shallow, wealthy rogues or beyond belief beauties here. Farrell and Aiden's story starts in Ireland and quickly sets a fast pace as they must literally run for their lives aboard a ship set for America. The author goes into great detail about this couple, and most folks back then, hardships, poverty and hard lives they had to live. The romance is set in a realistic pace, the characters grow to love and depend on each other, and the villian is bad enough to carry the story along. So, if your looking for a real world, thought provoking romance about early America, then I recommend this book-4.5 stars!

I read this book in one night!! It was a story that left me feeling warm inside. You wont regret reading this one and I look forward to others of Alexis Harrington's books!!

Alexis Harrington once again creates an engaging story of the power of love over tragedy and conflict. Combining Irish and American history, THE IRISH BRIDE, is a wonderful character driven novel in a setting of both beauty and unimaginable hardship. Ms. Harrington's characters seem to be real, not made up. They reflect real human relationships, not light, sexy and funny characters found in so many stories. It is hoped her writing style never changes.

I am now going to sincerely gush: I fell into Farrell and Aidan's lives and story. I cared about them. I wondered if their love was doomed because of all the trauma between them. The end of their story brought tears to my eyes. I would like to mention all the parts of the book that were so compelling to me, but I don't want to give anything away for other readers. The story had a lot of action yet was evenly paced and issues were resolved. I came home from work one night and told myself I would only read for a half hour. I tried to force myself to do my other work but...alas. I picked the book up again to read while I ate. I read it in the living room, I read it in bed and nothing got done until I was done with the book, but I didn't care. You know how a good book grabs you and won't let you go? That was The Irish Bride - it would not let me go and I wouldn't put it down. My next book purchase will be Harrington's The Bridal Veil.

Alexis Harrington has written another brilliant story giving insight into the tragic years of the Irish potato famine and the impact it has on a family struggling to make sense of it all. The characters are as real as any we might know today who persevere under the most abject and horrifying conditions and, despite the privations and extreme difficulties, not only survive but learn the meaning of a deep and abiding love. I have been following the writing career of Alexis Harrington for some time now and expect one day that she will make the "literary" genres. Her work is complex, human and devoid of fluff and silliness. She respects the intelligence of her readers and that, in and of itself, is very refreshing. The Irish Bride is a finely woven story that leaves the reader well satisfied and anxious to read her next books. I recommend it highly - it is a book to be savored and re-read for all the nuances and humanity it portrays. A keeper for anyone's library of excellent fiction. I was pleased to see this reviewed in Germany recently and given a 4 plus star rating.
