Sometimes the ones closest to you are the last to know.
North Wales, 1987. When the body of a young woman from Liverpool is found dumped behind a village hall, DI Emma Grey is determined to uncover the truth but finds only secrets, lies and contradictions. Who was Eve Jonas? Her friends say there was no truth in her, whereas others say she was too honest and trusting, bound for a fall.
Family ties have brought Emma back here to her childhood home of Penmaenmawr, and to a police force that may not be ready for her by-the-book methods. With plenty of suspects but few answers, Emma finds herself working with a face from her past, PC Dewi Roberts, whose close connections in the village may lead to the breakthrough they need. Change is all around. The new road is bringing North Wales closer to the city and its problems. But some things don't change. Some crimes are as old as time itself.
