The impossible dream: The spirituality of Dom Helder Camara

In the current zeitgheist of our Catholic Church, the voice of Dom Helder Camara, once a clarion cry, is needed now more than ever. This courageous archbishop in Brazil chose to live in the light of the Second Vatican Council and the example of the Good Pope John XXIII and the teachings of his successor, the learned Pope Paul VI, in witness and saintly solidarity with the poorest, living on a cot in the back of the Church and practicing a saintly life while speaking out clearly the true meaning, mission and message of the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ as witnessed and practiced by our Church. Most of her secondary sources were published in the mid to late Sixties as this saintly Archbishop entered the worldwide eye. Truly his life serves as a lesson to us now in how we too may live the Gospel in our own lives. Please study it carefully and with prayer, as it is a rich seed which must take firm root in our hearts and our souls. Surely the centenary of Dom Helder's birth in a few years serves as a wonderful moment to recognize officially the fullness of his saintly and humble and powerful witness to the Gospel in solidarity with the poor.
