On the world of Amyrantha, the immortals have power over the natural elements, their power peaking every 1,000 years at the high tide of the Tide Star. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Jennifer Fallon has been rather hit and miss with me. I first read her Second Sons trilogy and to this day I still think it is one of the best trilogies that I have ever purchased. Because I liked The Lion of Senet so much I gobbled up her six Hythrun Chronicles books. I didn't enjoy that series nearly as much as Second Sons so I was hesitant to pick up the Immortal Prince right away. Well I am very glad that I took the chance. The plot is very good and without giving too much away I like the fact that your not sure if the main character is a good guy or not. Fallon does a great job of mixing action and politics with a romantic twist. I can't wait for the next Tide Lords book.
A talented writer

Arkady Desean was lowborn from the streets but somehow is now the wife of a Duke (third from the thrown and cousin to the king)and living in a palace. When a childhood friend (also the king's Spymaster) ask a favor of her and her expertise, it was hard to turn down. In this country, in this strange world, women do not have a lot of rights or expectations with the exception of conceiving and birthing babies, but Arkady is a scholar of history. And because of this she arrives at the prison the next day and led to the little traverse death row hall to meet the man who claims to be a mythical Tide Lord. An immortal wielder of magic during High Tide. Who apparently also has a death wish that is incapable of being met. What was unexpected of this book was the witticism used by Cayal, the Immortal Prince and Tide Lord. "Cayal cursed behind the hood, certain nobody would see the irony...The headsman's on vacation? Are they kidding me?" What was expected was the wonderful blend of characters and in-depth emotions and reality created with each. Fallon is truly a remarkable writer that has not received nearly the recognition that she deserves. How someone can sit down and not only create the world of the characters but take the time to create an entire globe with continents marked, countries, states, rivers, oceans. She even goes so far as to plan out the demise and creation of deserts, lakes, etc. She covers the creation of islands and the destruction of volcanoes and plans out over 8,000 years worth of reasoning for this world in one book, and keeps the the story plausible and straight throughout. Absolutely startling to the least. She weaves her tale around characters only hinting here and there at what part they play in the present and then slams it all home in the end when she reveals what part those characters are truly playing. The reader THINKS they know what's going on. They THINK they have it all figured out. *Here I am smiling* But they are clueless. I loved it! I can't wait for the next and I hope it's not too long in the coming. Fallon if you read these comments like some authors do--I go through at least 3-4 books a week and read ALOT of different authors, but to you I say Kudos! Very, very well done.
Utterly delightful!

Immortal prince Otherworldly novels can be so deceptive. Filled with the creations of an authors imagination, the landscapes and character sets either work very well, or fall apart at times of conflict. This is not so with "The Immortal Prince" by Jennifer Fallon. Book 1 of a new trilogy revolves around the efforts of one Kyle Lakesh, or Cayal, to end his immortality by taking the lives of 7 men in a local village. Knowing local law, he expects a beheading, and almost wishes for it. Unfortunately, the executioner is on compassionate leave (a family funeral), so a hangman is brought in to finish the job. Ahh, not so easy. The rope is taut, the panel drops, and Kyle hangs there, waiting for a death that will never come. So begins "Immortal Prince", and the efforts of the Lady of Lebec, Dr Arkady Desean, to either prove he is insane, or truly immortal. Insane, he goes free. Immortal, then she is forced to believe the Tide Lord mythology she had long ago dismissed, and truly look at the Tarot that local practishoners use to entertain, and pass on legends. From there, only the Tide Lords know what the result might be. Ms Fallon has created a marvelous backdrop for a stubborn academic like Arkady, who is not only struggling with Stellans' sexual deception, his lovers' advances, and growing curiousity and attraction to a man who just might be immortal. If we add to the mix, the Crasii, half human, half dog servants of the humans in the area, and a Kingly nephew, Mathu, who is not so thick and undisciplined as he seems, and this is one good stew. Her writing style is uncluttered, and yet it conveys all that is required for readers mental projectors to click on, and engage. She has a marvelous sense of irony and humor that shines through in the dialogue. Book 2 just can't appear on shelves quickly enough. [...]

I really like this author. The size of her books might be daunting but once between the covers her writing style sweeps you away until hours are past and you are at the back cover. I found the Immortal Prince fasinating and I can't wait until the next book comes out - hopefully in less time than a year. Jennifer Fallon is an author you can count on to come up with something that is different, exciting and compelling. The experience of her wonderful stories is well worth the hardback cost. I have read all of her series and have not been disappointed with any of them. I truly can't wait until Book 2 of the Tide Lords series come out!
