Aurelius Prudentius Clemens was a Roman Christian poet, born in the Roman province of Tarraconensis. Prudentius was a lawyer and twice was provincial governor. Late in life he became an ascetic fasting and collecting Christian poems of the period. His hymns "Of the Father's Love Begotten and "Earth Has Many a Noble City" are still in use today.
