The Hunt for Atlantis: A Novel (Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase)

I was looking for a Clive cussler replacement as his work, in my opinion, had gone down hill since he began sharing writing credits. Some were so so but most were blah. My daughter suggested Andy McDermott. Great beach read with lots of action and decent story. I don't bother trying to dissect every technical aspect or look at feasibility of the escapes. I want to be entertained. This book fit the bill.

Non-stop action. Suspenseful throughout. Protagonist bad guys have unlimited resources as they move around the world stage. This book is the premier for more in the series involving Eddie Chase and Nina Wilde, PhD in the female "Indiana Jones" genre. Escapist reading, thoroughly enjoyable with an element of history tucked in. Non-plausible scenes at times but you'll "root" for the good guys who seem always to win in the end.

This is the first book in the Nina Widdle/Eddie Chase series and the best one yet! I did not read this book first, but it is defiantly my favourite. The way Andy writes you can really imagine the story coming to the big screen. The book is packed full of action and you truly fall in love with Nina and Eddie! I recommend that you read this book if you love action adventure books. You will not be disappointed!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The problem I have with Matthew Reilly is that although he has great action, he is not a great writer. Andy McDermott combines both to give a fast paced action adventure. It has just the right amount of ancient history to keep the story moving and has enough of a story to keep the action moving. Chase will go down as a great novel character. Can't wait for his next book..

I am one of those folks that love to read all things Atlantis - the story of the Lost Continent has always fascinated me. Andy McDermott's book, The Hunt For Atlantis, takes that quest to a level that Indiana Jones would have trouble holding on to his fedora keeping up! Archeaologist Nina Wilde is following in her parents' steps - they were looking for proof of Atlantis' existence, and the proof that survivors of Atlantis spread out in many directions and lived and spread their knowledge to many cultures. She is approached by a megabillionaire and his daughter to find Atlantis. There is also The Brotherhood that wants to keep Atlantis and its knowledge buried as deep as the ruins under the sea. But who are the good guys and who are the villians? Is this the same circumstance that brought about the ending of Atlantis in the first place? The Hunt For Atlantis brings nonstop action with the knowledge we have gleaned from Plato's works, and the legends, as well as information that has stayed with us all of these many centuries (and knowledge that was lost when the Library of Alexandria burned) that there truly was an Atlantis. For fans of archaeology, as well as Atlantis devotees. McDermott has written a book that is not a fast read (538 pages) but a memorable one.

This is another new author to me and that is because this is his first novel. You would think that a storyline which involved searching for the lost city of Atlantis would have been done to death by now, but this is a very good first novel for the author. The author is very adept at generating excitement and the book is fast paced. Like some of the previous reviewers I found it very difficult to put down. A young female archaeologist believes that she has found the location of the lost city of Atlantis. She obviously would like to be able to prove this fact. The problem she has is that someone wants her dead. The main character Nina Wilde, the said archaeologist is a believable and likeable person and the reader can relate to her character and her race against time to find lost secret . . . The book was very enjoyable and I was sorry when it ended. I believe the author has another book in the pipeline called The Tomb of Hercules and I shall certainly be looking out for it when it is published.
