The House That Horror Built

This was one of the most boring, predictable books I've read in a long time. I'd say from about the third or fourth chapter I knew what was going to happen but kept going in the hopes my expectations would be subverted. I wouldn't even say the plot of a novel being predictable is a bad thing, Delilah S. Dawson writes very predictable books but I find them to be intensely satisfying. This story was not satisfying. It's a shame because I found Harry to be a very compelling character; growing up poorer than dirt myself, I related to Harry on an emotional level. Harry is the whole reason I'm rating this story at a 2.5. In short, a disappointment. But probably a good story if you don't read that much horror/mystery. Also Daniel seemed to be a character stand in for the character actor Doug Jones whose work I really enjoy so shout out to Daniel too actually. (Even though he seemed kind of hero worship-y of Javier Castillo who seemed to be a stand in for Guillermo Del Toro and idk exactly what Christina Henry was trying to say with that and idk if I like it.)
