Very informative! Feeling great and getting results!

If I had a nickel for every diet book I have read ...well, I would have a lot more nickels than pounds lost, that's for sure! I have never written a review before but this book inspires me to do. First I will get to my review, then I will share my results so far. The review part: this is SO much more than just a diet book and that is EXACTLY why I liked it. A couple people complained that the author spent too much time talking about hormones and didn't get to the diet part until late in the book, but the reason it worked for me is because she actually did discuss the reasons why I have had so much difficult losing weight or keeping it off in the past. According to her, until we get to the root of the problems - hormones - you can't lose weight because it's the hormones running the show! I'll tell ya, if you want just another diet book, there's a million of them on the shelves at any book store. This is so much more. In the first part of the book she discusses 16 different hormonal imbalances and the symptoms of each one. When I read that it was like a lightbulb going off in my head - I clearly had hormone imbalance 7 (excess estrogen), hormone imbalance 13 (low thyroid) and hormone imbalance 9 (low progesterone) and her hormonal health questionnaire revealed it. For years I thought that this was maybe just a normal part of aging and yet all I would think about was how good I used to feel years ago. I felt depressed, anxious, fuzzy and frumpy almost ALL the time! Well, I got on her detox, (including her bathroom and kitchen detox) and starting feeling much better, and while it didn't happen overnight the pounds did start coming off. I also started incorporating her supplement suggestions for each hormonal imbalance, modifying my sleep habits and doing the workout in the book. Fast forward to now - it's been a few months and I have already lost 24lbs! I found a doctor that finally did the tests that I needed to have done and it turns out Dr. Turner was right - low thyroid AND low progesterone! In combination with that doctor, and this book, my hormones are finally getting back in balance - at age 39! I can't believe I spent soo many years in the `dark', feeling terrible. While I still consider myself a `work in progress', I know that I feel SO much better than I did before and I get comments all the time from my coworkers and friends saying how good I look. In fact, I can't believe I am saying this, but I am actually looking forward to my 40th birthday now! I also highly recommend reading Knockout by Suzanne Somers. Good luck and good health to all.

A prescription for looking and feeling GOOD again!!!

Can't thank you enough! Due to a busy professional life, I was eating lousy, sleeping lousy and feeling lousy (sluggish and chronically fatigued). I have also suffered with skin irritations (itching and flaking on my eyelids/brow) for years. Then ... I saw your book. I wasn't trying to lose weight; I just wanted to feel more energetic. So I did the hormonal health questionnaire, tried your two week detox and started eating as you recommended. What is really great is that I don't miss or crave the sugars and fatty foods anymore which is incredible. It has now been only 5 weeks of starting your program of eating well, exercising, and getting good rest, and already I am blown away at how much better I feel and how much better my skin and hair feel. I have also lost several stubborn pounds and can see it will come off so much easier now! I am now rereading certain chapters (it's a lot of information!) to start incorporating your supplement suggestions for balancing your hormones. Thank you for offering a great approach to feeling good again! PS. Someone else wrote that there are no lists, menus or charts?? Of course there are - it's in the second half of the book and the recipes are at the end, along with a list of recommended blood tests (thank you for this - I am going to my doctor next month to test my hormones!). I think maybe what confused some people is that this diet actually begins with a detox, rather than going straight into the diet. That way you eliminate the foods that are causing you issues. I never even knew I was sensitive to wheat and citrus fruits until now!

Since as long as I can remember I would pop an asprin every time I started my period or would just stay home the first day because it was so painful. About a year ago however I started to notice that every time I ate I would look like I was 4 months pregnant! Back fat was becoming an issue and I was noticing some cellulite, in addition to irregular periods with heavy bleeding and symptoms of uterine fibroids. Long story short, everything I read in your book was right on and made perfect sense! I modified my diet and lifestyle according to the guidelines in your book and begun experiencing completely painless periods that came more regularly. Best of all, after a few months the bloating problem I seemed to have whenever I ate has completely gone away, even after a week of vacation food! I can't thank you enough for writing such a detailed prescription for hormonal health. At age 45, I now feel better than I have in years!! I share your book with everyone now!!

Hormonally balanced .... finally! We highly recommend this book!

At the age of 52, I feel like I have read every diet book out there and tried every program. Both my husband and I needed to gain control over our health, and ultimately our weight. Reading The Hormone Diet was one of the smartest and best things that we have ever done. We both feel so much better now that we have lost weight and, more importantly, learned how to shop and eat properly. Not only have we lost weight and inches but I have also stopped using one of my blood pressure medications and hopefully will be off my cholesterol meds in the near future. My hair loss even stopped and many of my previous complaints disappeared. Overall, the program was easy to follow and the benefits have been amazing. We would strongly recommend this book to anyone, and we are looking forward to showing off our new bodies this summer!
