A Breathtaking Sequel!

The first book I read by Dan Walsh was at Christmas, when I read The Unfinished Gift, a touching, emotional story. So, when the opportunity arose to review the second book, The Homecoming, I jumped on it! I was emotional through out this inspirational book, too! Shawn, Katherine and Patrick are back in this amazingly written sequel. The ups and downs of the emotional rollercoaster leaves you utterly breathless. While The Unfinished Gift was more of a story about forgiveness and heartache, this one is more romantic, faith finding and overcoming the past. From the beginning you start to feel every kind of emotion possible....heartache, sadness, love, forgiveness, happiness and so much more. Being a daughter of a Naval Senior Chief Petty Officer, this wartime story really tugged at me. I love an amazing story with soldiers and heroes in them! So, please don't think twice about getting this book. It can easily be read as a stand alone, though The Unfinished Gift is worth reading too! Dan Walsh is an excellent author who's book gets 5 star praises from me! It's an emotional inspiring story and I recommend this book to everyone! Just make sure you have lots of tissues handy!

It's a keeper!

The Homecoming is a heartwarming story from start to finish. This book is a keeper. Shawn Collins' grief is still fresh after the death of his wife, Elizabeth. But besides his grief, his greatest concern as a returning war hero is who will take care of his son, Patrick, when he is assigned to active duty representing the United States on a war bond tour. Katherine Townsend, former Child Services representative, agrees to be Patrick's nanny. She has no problem loving Patrick as if he were her own. Her problem lies in guarding her heart from her increasing attraction to Shawn. Especially since he made it clear from the start that he wanted, "to keep this relationship very professional." From the United States, to bomb torn London, and back to the United States the story of Shawn, Katherine, and Patrick is one of adventure, love, and inspiration. Dan Walsh knows how to write a story that grips you and holds on to you until the very end. I look forward to reading his next book.

Wonderful heart warming book!

The Homecoming by Dan Walsh takes off where The Unfinished Gift left off, but each book stands alone as a great book. Shawn Collins just returned home a war hero, but he was ready to stay home and grieve over the loss of his wife and spend time with his son Patrick. The military had other plans. After several weeks of leave Shawn was asked to serve his country by being a speaker on the war bond tour. Other men would be excited for the chance to rub shoulders with Hollywood elites, but Shawn wanted to just stay home. With no other choice, Shawn asked Katherine Townsend to be Patrick's nanny while he was on tour. This decision will turn his world upside down. Shawn tries to understand God's decisions while at the same time learning to open his heart again. Dan Walsh is a master storyteller. One of my favorite scenes was when Shawn re-told the story of how he saved his crew from being shot down. Walsh's vivid descriptions make you feel like you are there with each of the characters. The Homecoming is a love story that will warm your heart. Walsh's characters come alive, and after reading both The Unfinished Gift and The Homecoming I feel like I am losing some friends. Both of these books are highly recommended! Available June 2010 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

Definitely a story to read and reread!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Homecoming by Dan Walsh. This beautiful story was very emotional moving, and I felt was truly immersed in the lives of the characters of the book as I experienced the depth of Shawn Collins' sorrow and then watched him come to terms with his wife's death while trying to care for his son and father at the same time. I was also very caught up in the changes taking place in Katherine Townsend's heart and life and could hardly wait as the story unfolded to see how the lives of these two people would be worked out. Additionally, some of my favorite parts were the encouraging words spoken to both Shawn and Katherine throughout the pages of this book - much of which spoke directly to my heart as well. I loved the beginning, the middle and especially the end. I think this is definitely one of those books that I will be reading over and over again!
