The Hills Have Eyes: The Beginning

Deep within the remote hills of the New Mexico desert, a group of townspeople thought wiped out by the United States government when it began above-ground atomic testing has returned to the now-irradiated land they still claim as their home. Within the eye of this nuclear storm good people will go bad, battle lines will be drawn, and a new family of mutated monstrosities must protect their own at all costs in a mind-boggling orgy of blood and vengeance.

Interesting perspective on a title

I'm not the biggest horror fans, at least I don't like the blood and guts just for the blood and guts aspect. But with a book like Hills, the story actually uses the violence and horror as a tool for the story to be told. Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, with pretty cool art of Higgins, tell a tale of how the Bean clan came to be and what their motivation was for all the violence. They don't try to sugar coat it or even justify it, just tell the story from a different perspective. That's what makes the story impressive.

Amazing and Graphic. Great story told through astonishing artwork

Forget watching the movie sequel to the 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes. Pick this up instead. This graphically illustrated comic style prequel is a serious piece of work. An intense read for sure. The artwork is sheerly amazing. The story is rock solid, emotional, and often times disturbing. It gives the desert post-atomic mutant clan a lot of real depth. The Hills Have Eyes movie touched very lightly on the back story of how the desert killers were genetically mutated survivors of nuclear fallout from atom bomb testing. This kind of explained their motives behind killing and maiming any outsiders who came their way. Revenge and survival are the words that come to mind. But as any real prequel should do, The Hills Have Eyes: The Beginning paints a great picture of the origins of the story. The story isn't just an add on to the movies, this IS The Hills Haves Eyes and how it came to be. This is a story I will read over and over again.
