does a wonderful job of setting up the rest of the series... fast-paced story

Courtesy of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques Marie Ferrarella kicks off a new continuity series, Love in 60 Seconds, with The Heiress's 2-Week Affair. Natalie Rothchild may be a very skilled, honorable police detective, but she is the black sheep in the Rothchild Family. Her father is a highly successful, filthy rich, casino magnate in Las Vegas. Or is he? When her twin sister, Candace, is murdered, Natalie will do whatever it takes to find the killer. Even enlist the aid of the last person she wants in her life. Matt Shaffer has returned to Las Vegas as head of security at a popular casino. He certainly wasn't expecting to have to deal with investigating a murder so soon after starting his job. Even more, the woman murdered is his ex-fiancée's twin sister and Natalie is at his door demanding assistance in finding her sister's killer. Natalie and Matt must put aside past hurts to work together to get to the bottom of the mystery and try to find the missing priceless family heirloom Candace was wearing at the time of her murder. As they spend more time together on the job they begin to wonder if their love is enough to overcome danger and deceit. The tension between Natalie and Matt is well done as each has their own history to overcome. Matt is from a very questionable background and has to overcome his own feelings about his family and the prejudices others have towards him for what his family has done. Natalie was hurt terribly by Matt's abandoning her years ago with no explanation and she is afraid to trust in him again. Then there are the rumors flying about in regards to Natalie's family as well, which taint her reputation as a good cop. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey to finding happiness together again. The Heiress's 2-Week Affair does a wonderful job of setting up the rest of the series with Candace's murder and the subsequent search for her killer and the missing diamond ring. I especially enjoyed the legend of the Tears of the Quetzal that in the right hands bring love at first sight but in the wrong hands brings nothing but trouble. This adds intensity to the already fast-paced story. I am eager to find out who the mystery man is that killed Candace and why he is so desperate to get the ring. Marie Ferrarella's story is a well fleshed out mystery with enough closure to make readers happy, but still leaving plenty yet to be resolved in future books in the Love in 60 Seconds continuity. I look forward to future books in this series. © Kelley A. Hartsell, June 2009. All rights reserved.

Great, fast paced suspense read

The Heiress's 2-Week Affair is part of Silhouette's new Love in 60 Seconds series. This is the first in the series, which introduces readers to the high stakes world of Las Vegas. In the first story, written by Rita award winner, Marie Ferrarella, Natalie Rothchild is a cop on her way to the office when she hears over the police scanner that her twin sister has been killed. While trying to find the murderer, Natalie runs into her former fiancée and enlists his help in finding her sister's killer. When her sister dies, a mysterious family heirloom turns up missing, leaving Natalie to wonder is her sister's death is an act of robbery or something more personal. Once again the author has offered up a great tale of romance, in this case adding the element of suspense. This book captivated my attention from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down as I kept trying to figure out who exactly the villain could be. I can't wait to check out the next installment to the series, His 7-Day Fiancée by Gail Barrett.
