Griffin Legacy

It's been years since I read this wonderful book and I never forgot it. The images it evokes of the time period are forever in my head. But the title? It was gone. I tried and tried to remember, then it occured to me to do a subject search at the library for American Revolution and Ghosts. Bingo! I might have to buy this book so when I want to read it over again I'll have it. If you're even slightly interested in the time period get this book!

The Griffin Legacy is about a girl named Amy. Amy is forced to move to the country to live with her grandma and great aunt. While there she is given the difficult task of solving the Griffin Legacy. With the help from her friends Ben and Betsy, Amy rediscovers the past of the Legacy and uncovers the secrets of Lucy Griffin, Seth Howes, and the stolen silver. Can Amy and her friends solve The Legacy before time is up? The Griffin Legacy was an amazing and suspenseful book to read. Every chapter I read made me wonder and want to know what was going to happen next. Putting the book down was a difficult and almost impossible task. I really enjoyed the mystifying mood created while reading the book, the vivid images the story portrayed, and the breathtaking climax. The mood you get while reading The Griffin Legacy is mystifying. Correct predictions were hard to make while reading this book. You never know what's going to happen next. An example would be when Amy, Ben, and Betsy suddenly start seeing the ghosts of Lucy Griffin and Seth Howes in their church and home; they have to try to figure out why these ghosts are wandering around and what message they are trying to get across to Amy. Each page that you read makes you want to read the next one. Jan O' Donnel Klaveness ends and starts each chapter with something new and exciting, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The vivid image created in your head while reading this book is unlike any other. An instance of the vivid imagery used in this book is when Amy is looking out her bedroom window and her Aunt Matilda says, "It's beautiful in the spring as well when the willows first yellow by the river banks, and the birches send out their green caterpillar buds." By reading this sentence you feel as if you are there with Amy. When you are reading this book you can almost imagine what everything looks like and how everyone feels. Jan O' Donnell Klaveness does a truly amazing job describing the scenes as well as the characters in this book. The climax this story is breathtaking. Amy, Ben, and Betsy and struggling not be pushed away from Seth Howes and yet they still want to help solve the legacy of Lucy Griffin and the stolen silver. The numbers of obstacles Amy, Ben, and Betsy have to go through to solve the legacy is too many to even count. Amy battles a storm-tossed, calamitous Halloween night to reveal Lucy's true legacy at last. The climax of this story was so suspenseful; you would never guess what was going to be the outcome of the legacy. In addition to solving the legacy, Amy, Ben, and Betsy uncover many secrets and lost dream that live in their town. I really enjoyed the mystery, imagery, and high point of this book. The Griffin Legacy taught me to follow my dreams and to never stop trying. These morals are very good morals to follow. I was searching through the school library and checked out this book on a whim. I loved it! I love the period of the American Revolution and this was an interesting mystery. Amy Enfield goes to live with her grandmother and great-aunt while her parents relocate to a new city after World War II. She sees a portrait of her ancestor Lucy Griffin, and realizes that they look alike! Amy sees the ghost of Lucy as well as Seth Howes, the rector at the local church and a Loyalist. I don't want to give away the ending, but it's got a lot of twists before everything is resolved. A good read!
