The past without sentiment

Joan Frank gives those years in the Seventies when people tried to live in sweet harmony with each other and with nature their due. She achieves just the right distance - a backward glance without sentiment. Her characters are young and hopeful; the landscape, still rural and open. Time happens! And Frank doesn't undercut her beautifully written narrative and her people with either nostalgia, cliche or condescension.

Deja Vu Summer of Love

Frank beautifully evokes the time, the people, and the idylic setting beautifully in this portrait of alternative choices during the seventies and their consequnces.
