These are great recipes from the creators of Gourmet Magazine. I only took a star off because these books are really old now and lack photos, etc. which happens to be something I like. I am more drawn to a meal by the look than the name, but that's just me.
one of the great classics

sometimes their recipe testing is faulty, but overall this should be a standard---both volumes! For putting together a dinner menu for 6 it is magnificent, and will keep the cook as well as the guests enthralled. (nice margins for personal notes, too). As a soup maven, I found the soup section excellent; I've used this for 40 years.

i got this book (1950edition) as a wedding shower gift in 0ct 1953, and it is the first cookbook i go to for recipes for most anything. for basic cooking it beats the revered JOC by a mile! MY marriage only lasted 31 years but the gourmet cookbook is still close to my heart.
