In a real sense, The Loyalist, the good American who remained faithful to Britian during the American Revolution, was responsible for what was America's first civil war, the War for Independence. Unfortunately, his story has been neglected and most Americans have grown up missing a sizeable part of the political shenanigans and military action associated with the struggle. One of the virtues of this book is that it restores a much needed perspective to the active role of the Tories in the Revolution.
