I picked up a copy of The Golden People at a thrift store and am glad that I did. I found that Saberhagen skilfully introduced a number of story elements early in the book and kept me wondering when they would come back into the story later. All of the elements *did* come back and turned out to be important. This book also had a few dramatic scenes that were emotionally powerful. The rescue attempt of the native child had a particularly strong impact on me.
