A well written enjoyable narrative for warbird afficionados.

My dad was a CG-4 crew chief and when I was kid he used to tell me about those times. I lost him before my curiosity had matured to the point when I could ask more sophisticated questions about his experiences with that glider. Fortunately for me, though, was that he wasn't amoung the units that were actually sent to Europe to suffer the unbelievable casualties resulting there whether due to stupidity, weather, unrealistic expectations, mechanical failures, or antiaircraft fire. For warbird enthusiasts, this book definitely entertains with a factual account of the use of both American (Waco GC-4) and British troop and equipment bearing gliders (Horsa and Hamilcar). I learned here, that Antoine de St. Exupery, flew his last mission as a recon pilot for the glider invasion of Sicily. All I had known before was that Exupery disappeared piloting a P-38 over Italy late in the war. This book is full of great stuff. You gotta read it - if you can find it, that is!
