I was looking in a catalogue (Carruth). One of his pieces had St. Frances. You looked upon his back with his hands and arms outstretched as if talking to a bunch of birds in the bushes. Was a nice piece of artwork. It also spurred my curiousity. I am not Catholic but did know of St. Frances of Asissi (sp?). I asked my Catholic friend about St. Frances. She told me how he was born into wealth and gave it all up to follow Christ. I said yeah but what has that got to do with birds? She found me this book. Read it herself and gave it to me. It was a quick read. Had a nice overview of his life and how his monastic order came to be. It showed how strong his fatih, beliefs and convictions were which in today's world I found really refreshing to read about such a noble person. It also brings in St. Clare. And yes, it explains the birds. I get it now. I learned that St Frances was, not only a man of God, but a rocking conservationalist too. The illustrations were very interesting as well. Enjoy
