Book Overview

Eddie is a wounded war veteran, an old man who has lived, in his mind, an uninspired life. His job is fixing rides at a seaside amusement park. On his 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him, as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. He awakes in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers...

Sooo good

I read this a while ago but I still remember everything in this story. This novel is so memorable and puts the world into perspective. The 5 people he met included some expected people, but the ones you don't expect had the biggest impact. I would read this again if I remembered where it was.

My new FAVORITE book

I got this book really knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. This book truly changes your perspectives on life and the people you interact with. Eddie represents all of us in times of confusion and exploring new beginnings.

Not in the condition that I purchased it in..

Not in the condition that I purchased it in. Was suppose to be in good condition and I received a falling apart cover

Must-read!

This was an enjoyable, albeit quick, read and really leaves you with a warm, hopeful feeling.

Not my favorite

This book wasn't what I expected, and it was honestly depressing. The storyline reminded me of A Christmas Carol in a way of which I'm not a fan. The overall idea of the book is slightly interesting. I wouldn't recommend this book.

This was a good book

I like this book except the excuses that were given to justify the abusive father. I do understand why it is included since it is common. I just hope society changes it's view on abuse and will no longer justify it for their loved ones. Future generations cannot change if we are not willing to recognize the abuse that our loved ones dished our. We cannot change what we refuse to recognize.

I love this book

I have purchased this book at least 7 times over the years. I set it on my shelf and sooner or later, someone is in need of an inspirational story. This has become my go to book for such occasions. An easy fast read, and wonderful story.

Excellent read!

Definitely a five star book. Quick read and wonderful story. I ordered this after my grandmother passed away and it's really helped my grieving process!

Beautiful book!!❤️

Beautiful book! It makes you think.

Cute and sweet

It was cute! Cliché but I would recommend it as a short story full of love and redemption. I wish the world we are living in is actually that friendly lol.

Great Book with a Great Message!

I loved this book! It was a short little read with a captivating story, and it gave me a whole new perspective of how to look at the 'afterlife' without shoving religion down your throat. Highly recommend!

My favorite Mitch Albom book

This book made me cry for weeks after reading. So wholesome and had me wanting more. A super quick read because you won’t want to put it down

Eye-opening

I love the main message: our stories are all connected! Read the entire book within 2 hours, amazing.

I got halfway through

I got halfway through the book but unfortunately my dog chewed and tore the book apart before I could get to the end. 🥲

This Book Is So Good I Couldnt Stop Reading It I Finished It In Like 2 Days

Its Written Super Well And Keeps You Hooked

A Must Read

This book makes you feel good about the loved ones that have crossed over. It makes you think, “if this could really be the way then I’m okay with them leaving”. Very easy to follow. Quick read. Simple but powerful. I love that it has a sequel!

The Five People You Meet In Heaven.

This book was so good. I read the overview and thought it would be a good read but I was wrong. Was a GREAT read; the story was short, sweet and left me with tears streaming down my face and a solemness in my heart.

.... and the things we need to learn along the way.

I loved the Author's take on what begets us hereafter. Everything that was mentioned could be something each of us uniquely experiences prior to death; if we could only recognize it. Thanks for reminding me what I should be trying to achieve in this lifetime.

Beautiful Read

This book was beyond my expectations! Very Beautiful Read!

Great read

It’s an incredible read, it takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and will leave you attached to the book in no time. I loved it

This book came highly recommended to me.

This is a good book. I prefer based on true story. But I digress, it is a heartfelt read.

Did not pack a punch with me!

I have enjoyed other Mitch Albom books, but this one did not do it for me.

Food for thought

This was more than a light read for me. Good for those of us who question our contribution to life in general, it is thought-provoking. I am buying this copy for our (54) and I think he will find it meaningful as well.

Great quick read!!

Great book for all ages! Quick read n enojoyable!

Not my style but it was a cute story

I don’t usually go for these types of books but this was quite a cute story. I Feel like this author is very creative and has a very active imagination to come up with such an engaging plot. At the end I gave this book away to a friend of mine and I didn’t want to keep it because it was in my type a story but she found that it was a very good as well so I highly recommend if you just want something light to read and it’s very cute t at the end I gave this book away to a friend of mine and I didn’t want to keep it because it was in my type a story but she found that it was very good as well so I highly recommend if you just want something light to read and it’s very cute too.

Good Book

I bought this book for a friend that is going to study Spanish in College and she wanted something to help her getting speaking spanish again and since I don't know Spanish I got her one of her favorite books but in Spanish.

Another life-defining book from Mitch Albom

To tell the truth, after reading Tuesdays with Morrie from Mitch Albom, I did have high expectations for this follow-up. And I must say that my expectations were more than surpassed by another winner from him.The interweaving of Eddie "Maintenance"'s various aspects of life from his childhood, teenage years, courtship, military service, marriage, middle age to old age and finally the beginning of his journey through heaven was beautifully and intricately spun in this short tale. The poetic descriptions of the various "steps" in heaven that Eddie traversed through in search for inner peace before his final resting destination and the 5 lessons he had to learnt brought to mind the eternal existentialistic questions of why we are here and what our life purpose is, in a quiet and non-intrusive manner. So much so that we can be prompted to examine our own lives more sympathetically. The message I got from Mitch Albom at the end was that Eddie could have been anyone of us and that we do not need to wait for our turn to meet our five people in heaven to recognise that whatever we are doing now has meaning and has purpose in wonderful and beautiful ways and that we should never allow ourselves to belittle our lives. Not quite the tearjerker as Tuesdays but Five People has certainly touched my heart and a few others in more ways than one. I hope that you will allow this beautiful book to touch yours too.Kudos to Mitch Albom and a big thank you to his uncle Eddie for being the source of inspiration for this would-be classic.God bless

A delightful, moving fable.

Mitch Albom as taken the experiences of a man's seemingly useless life, and unwrapped a story that is a gift to each of us.His use of the language, and ability to evoke real emotions from his character AND his reader at the same time is truly amazing.I found this to be a fairly quick read, and read it in one 4 hour sitting. The Author tugs at hearstrings, provokes thought and smiles as the main character sometimes fumbles his way through a timeless heaven, discovering that in the end, his life had more meaning than he could ever imagine.Mitch Albom is going to solidify his status as a national treasure with this book.Give this book to everyone on your Christmas list!
